A Fallen Soldier: A Vibrant Church
Daniel Diallo was a Fulani, and as a youth he invited Jesus Christ to be his personal Savior. He became a soldier of the Cross, actively sharing his faith with others. His heart was burdened for the salvation of his family and the Fulani people.
A Muslim chief had invited an American missionary to settle among the Fulani at Djibo, a town in northern Burkina Faso. The missionary asked Daniel to partner with him in establishing a church there. Daniel gladly
accepted the offer and moved with the missionary family to the large trading center, ideally located for evangelism.
Together, Daniel and the missionary began making a clear presentation of the gospel. The local people called their message “The Jesus Way.” The missionary team preached again and again without one person responding. Still, they continued sowing the seed of the gospel as they prayed for a harvest.
God answered their prayers, and people began coming to the Lord. Daniel served as their pastor and rented a 4-by 5-meter room for a church. Soon 50 new believers filled the room, prompting the need to construct a building. Church leaders set the date for the new advance.
Daniel’s own family members were greatly disturbed over his decision to leave Islam and follow Christ. The day before the building project was set to launch, they murdered him. He died a martyr’s death because of his faith in Jesus Christ. The believers were saddened at the loss of their friend and leader, one who seemed to be the key to opening the door to the Fulani people. But they were to learn that “God’s ways are higher than our ways.”
Daniel’s death delayed the construction of the church building, but it did not stop the kingdom of God from forcefully advancing among the Fulani. Daniel did not die in vain when he shed his blood for a people he loved. His supreme sacrifice was a turning point in reaching the Fulani with the gospel. Many began accepting Christ as their Savior, the church building was erected and a Bible school established.
A fallen soldier of the Cross was the seed God used to produce a vibrant church!
